Signs of damaged car windshield wipers

Before setting off, it is worth taking care of the proper preparation of the car so that the journey is pleasant and safe. In addition to checking the fluid levels, the condition of the brake pads, or the tire pressure, it is worth paying attention to the degree of wear of the car windshield wipers.

1. Smearing water on glass:

This indicates that the working edge of the wiper blade is worn. Replacing the blades with new ones will provide perfect visibility in the rain.

2. Noisy operation and skipping of the wipers.

It could be due to worn wiper blades or an incorrectly set angle of the wiper arm relative to the windshield. Possible causes include a recent windshield replacement or a recent visit to the repair shop. Replacing the blades or adjusting the wiper arms will restore quiet wiper operation.

3. Leaving wide streaks of water in the field of view.

The most common cause is a corroded wiper arm joint or a worn spring, which results in reduced pressure of the wiper against the windshield. Repairing or replacing these worn components will ensure even cleaning across the entire windshield.

4. Leaving water spots on the windshield.

This may indicate that the windshield or wiper blades are dirty. If cleaning these components does not resolve the issue, it may be time to replace the wipers.

Windshield wipers are a consumable item, similar to brake pads, and they wear out over time and with mileage. We recommend replacing them at least once a year, ideally when you change your tires—before the summer and winter seasons. This ensures optimal performance, visibility, and safety on the road.
