What is the SAE J903 standard?

It is a standard developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers – a global authority in automotive engineering, whose guidelines are used by the world’s leading manufacturers. This standard defines precise, extreme testing conditions for wiper blades, simulating thousands of hours of operation in the toughest environments — from heavy rain and severe frost to intense UV radiation.
What do SAE J903-compliant tests mean for VISEE wiper users?

What do we measure and how do we test?
At one of our specialized testing stations — the VISEE PERFORMANCE ANALYZER (VPA 0.02 CNC) — we simulate the actual operation of wipers across a working angle range from 0 to 90 degrees. Tests are conducted in three operating modes: slow, medium, and fast, according to the cycles described in the SAE J903 standard.
The wiper’s contact pressure against the windshield surface is automatically set and programmed based on the selected blade length, allowing for precise replication of real operating conditions for a specific vehicle model.
The VISEE PERFORMANCE ANALYZER (VPA 0.02 CNC) enables advanced durability and functional tests in accordance with SAE J903, as well as experimental tests beyond the standard, under controlled conditions. In particular, it allows for:
- Replicating real working conditions of wipers (angle, speed, pressure, windshield wetting).
- Programming and automating fatigue tests (up to 500,000 cycles).
- Operating in dry/wet modes with recording of friction force, noise, and side effects (e.g., jerking).
